PFF files report to FIFA complaining about racial abuse of Filipino fans in Hong Kong

The Philippine Football Federation has filed a report to world governing football body FIFA on the allegations of racist abuse by Hong Kong fans toward Filipinos during a friendly match last week.
PFF communications head Ebong Joson said that the country’s football body sent a “confidential report” to FIFA last Tuesday night.
“A confidential report re the incidents at Mong Kok stadium was submitted by PFF to FIFA last night,” Joson told InterAKTV in a text message.
FIFA is expected to slap heavy sanctions on guilty parties in the incident after recently announcing stiffer penalties against racial abuse, punishments that range from points deduction to disqualification for repeat offenders.
After the Azkals 1-nil triumph over Hong Kong last week, Filipino fans took to Twitter to recount the hostile treatment they received from local fans in the territory. They said angry supporters threw bottles at them and called the Philippines a “slave nation.”
The Hong Kong Football Association has vowed to ban the racist fans in future matches if proven guilty.
Diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Hong Kong have turned sour since 2010 when a hostage-taking incident in Manila marred by a mismanaged police rescue killed eight Hong Kong tourists.
Since then, Hong Kong has issued a black travel warning to the Philippines that remains in effect until now. The other country in the blacklist is war-torn Syria.
In an editorial, the South China Morning Post denounced the behavior of a number of Hong Kong fans and called for punishment.
“Filipinos have every right to be outraged. They had gone to the stadium to cheer on their team, not endure taunts and ridicule. Their national anthem was disrespected when it was played, they were insulted by being called derogatory names and plastic bottles were among items thrown at them. The barrage of discrimination worsened after the Philippines won the game 1-0,” the editorial read.
“Such behaviour is uncharacteristic of Hong Kong soccer fans. They are renowned for being good-natured, even when rivalries are fierce.”
