鑒於香港人唔太hookup to 啲咁悶既嘢,
唔識challenge都可以理解!
HKMA又唔理, 做議員都只可以做事後孔明!

至於你轉賬俾人,按錯ACCOUNT NUMBER 又如何 ?

都有的保障既:
例如你個BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER, 其中有一個或以上號碼系多余,
多余既數字系由其他既計出來.
例如
你系第123456個客, 咁系統會出 123456-4 俾你做ACCOUNT NUMBER, 個4字系由特定FORMULA計出來
下一個客123457, 系統可能出個9字, 即 ACCOUNT NUMBER  123457-9.

咁到你輸入ACCOUNT NUMBER時, 按錯一個KEY,都會俾系統REJECT左你既.
叫做有少少保護作用

No worry la.
There are always imperfect, software bug won't stop ATM, the bank won't hire 24 hour tellers to serve the customers. The world keeps on using ATM machine.

When you walking on the street, you may hit by a falling window frame. But you won't hide in you house and never go out, right?

So, some security experts get their job, and everyone happy... and enjoy the IT revolution!

其實我有D慨嘆, IT行業是逐漸走下波的, 起碼香港是這樣.
投入這行的人, 數量減少了, 質素下降了.... 這從每年大學電腦系招生情況可見一斑

在這是難得碰到一些有質的IT人了

我有個親戚系Imperial college讀到金晶火眼，

唉! 小弟每當放榜, 梗聽到有畢業生大大聲咁講電話: 冇辦法啦, 成績咁差, 唯有讀CS/CE/IT啦!
好似呢啲科好易咁. 一掉以輕心...咪!
最大鑊係:
老細又或者管理層都以為啲嘢好易, 好似抄隻碟咁易,
好平, 好似老翻或者BT咁唔係點駛錢...
不過, 唔驚香港啲嘢都唔趕既, 同埋冇質素既人仲忠心, 仲好用.

按: 我老細時時都係咁講架!

今日去禁機,岩岩見有工作人員開左隔離部入票機,
裝個頭過去睇下機入邊,
竟然唔系embedded system,
而系土砲組裝機一部!

The following is for skeptics:

Have you been to the dentist ?  
Noticed they tell you X-ray is harmless but they rush out like mad.
Error free software does not exist!
You do not believe : take a look at a software licence .  What sort of warranty do you get ?
I encourage everyone to  actually read a software licence.
Take a look at how many patches Micro$oft issues every month.  
When was Windows XP released ? They are still patching it.
Still not convinced ?  Did you know that on Critical systems on the Space Shuttle they have as many
as 4 programs doing the same thing but written by 4 different teams.

值得研究。

Okay my original point was regarding software but seems to me there is interest on ATM.
Please note I have never worked on Banks ATM systems. I have no inside knowledge so I cannot
tell you whether Phantom withdrawals are due to software error or human error or theft by cardholder's family member.
All I can say if you are interested in finding out more then do a search on Phantom ATM withdrawal.

You don't have to be like me abandoning ATM altogether. You can minimise you loss by restricting your ATM account
to only a few thousand dollars. This also has the added benefit that in the event of a robbery and you are forced to disclose your PIN ...
ATM access on credit cards definately a bad idea.. think of the interest charges!!!

Why haven't you heard more of this ?  Well because banks do not want you to know their system is less than 100% safe.
and because government supports banks.  And because it is super hard to prove that YOU did not made that Withdrawal.
There was a case a few years ago involving a South African Couple who insist they could not have made the withdrawals
because the withdrawal happened in the UK and they can prove they were not in the UK at the time of the withdrawals.  The result: I cannot tell you because the bank applied and won a "gag" order  (search for "bank gags crypto researchers") to prevent public disclosure.

If you think carefully you will realise how difficult it is for ATMs to be 100% safe and error free.

1) The software need to be 100 error free.
2) The system need to 100% secure with no exploitable holes.
e.g.  cannot install a card reader + spy camera to duplicate your ATM card and PIN
3) All bank employees are 100% trust worthy or at least no one dishonest employee alone can exploit the system
4) All bank employees will abide 100% of the banks rules and guidelines
5) All bank's contractors are ....
...

Banks is HK will soon be issuing CHIP and PIN cards to replace the old magnetic strip ATM cards (most credit cards already use CHIP)
"This will make ATM even more secure....."  
(?? If the old magnetic strip ATM cards are 100% secure why the need to change them ??

Europe had started introducing CHIP and PIN ATM cards several years ago...is it more secure ..probably..makes harder to duplicate the card
Banks says Chip based cards impossible to duplicate. Government supports them.
Phantom withdrawals victims disagree and some experts agrees with the victims.
(eg Search for " Shell suspends Chip and PIN after £1m fraud")

Remember Compared with most countries HK's consumer protection is poor;  Even in countries with good consumer protection getting your money back after a phantom withdrawal is very very hard.  So protect yourself: limit your maximum loss.

Sorry, My info could have been out of date..from the days when I could actually write programs instead
of being jack of all trade but master of none.
They could well have increased to 5 separate systems by 5 spearate teams.
It could be interesting to find out what they do Our own (Chinese) space vessels.

Advances in computer technology probably put the Chinese space programs in a much better position than the US twenty or thirty years ago.  

For one, the faster CPU's allow more sophisticated iteration methods to accurately  calculate the trajectory of the space ship in real time.

Two. new telecommunication methods allow better communications between earth stations and the satellite or space ship, not only audio and video, but also remote control and sensor signals.

And I am sure there are a lot more areas of scientific improvements which have made the space program more viable and safer.
