小弟用了64GB SATA SSD （市价大概USD100元）在手提电脑上，才1GB DDR3 内存，用最差的操作系统（Windows Vista， 32 Bit).  效果非常好。  开机比普通SATA HardDrive 5400RPM + 4GB内存快一倍。其他运作都明显的比一般硬盘快。值得用SSD来装OS,用USB外接硬盘来储存。

SSD主要用来安装OS和其他软件。而储存MUSIC,MOVIES,PICTURES最好用USB外接硬盘。

外接USB硬盤好煩，
boot 機時往往 Hang 住不動，
要先拔去硬盤的USB，才能再 reset  boot 機。

此外，往往要插兩個USB插頭，才能有效拖動500G以上的硬盤。
只插一個USB插頭，有時行不到。

try connecting 2 SSD in RAID 0 mode in desktop and use it as boot drive, and RAM drive as page file

Like everything there are pros and cons;

Pros= faster, lighter, cooler, use less power.
Cons= Cost factor is more, limited to smaller size, life spend at this point is shorter then the Mechanical one.

Just remember what ever you use, do backups

should wait until SSD price comes down more,
maybe get an SSD of 100-200GB then...
can at least store more files without having to bring
external HD everywhere I go...

SSD 因為特性上跟硬盤不同，所以需要一個叫 TRIM 的指令，不然有可能會大大影響 write 的表現。不過 Vista 本身還沒有支援 TRIM，要到 Windows 7 才有支援。
