IMHO, although Yao's numbers are not exactly "amazing", for his contribution to the game of basketball in China and then to the world alone, he is worthy for a HoF nomination!

i feel sorry to yao actually.. for me, he is a very good center. he really improve alot. still remember his 1st season in nba? and compare with now. is totally a different yao there.

I am dare to say NO for several reasons.

For starters, there are really ONLY a number of open roster spots in Europe, the rest are guaranteed contracts and all; you simply just can't sudden sign an NBA player and put him on your team even if you want. Secondly, many teams in the Euro league just cannot afford even a second-tier NBA star. Thirdly, Euro league is not the NBA in facility and management, I bet you those A-list stars won't like what they see in Europe. And to support this point, just look at D-Will agreement with that Turkish team. There is an escape clause where he can immediately leave the team to return to the NBA, as soon as the lock out is over. So there, guys especially star players, ain't really thinking moving on to Europe for good.

On the surface, the owners wanted a 'hard salary cap', while the players think the current system with all the exceptions is just fine.

And then the length of contrasts and gauranteed money. Owners wanted to reduce them to 5 years max and only partly gauranteed.

On the other hand, it is a trust issue. The owners are claiming 22 out of 30 teams were losing money for as much as $300M a season, but the players don't believe the figures the NBA are showing them. There are a few other tough issues that they are far apart on, we will see what happen.

The trend of NBA players heading to Europe is temporary. Once the lockout is finished, they are want to come back.
Due to one reason; TV exposure.

These NBA players rely on TV exposure and the TV relies on NBA players. Unless you retired for good. Otherwise being an active player, you definitely need NBA TV to broadcast internationally.

Good point!

Plus, if these guys are willing to accept just $4M or a season playing in Europe, there is really no point in prolonging the lockout, when all they are set to lose maybe just a few millions over the life of their contracts! In other words, they STILL make way more $$ in the NBA, so why play overseas?

Yeah, he can still dunk, but he doesn't look fit though. I think he can still play a game or two, but not nearly at half of the average level anymore.

For other athletes I wouldn't say he/she could get back into game shape.
Never ever bet against MJ and his will to play the game of basketball.

Even at the tender age of "late 40s" he can still schools a lot of current NBA players.

As we all saw in the latter stage of MJ's career, he didn't need to beat you with this athletism, rather in some case, he beat you with his experience and the will power to win games.

This might not mean anything, and both the NBA team owners and the player union are still far apart; but at least both sides agreed to meet at the bargaining table again in 4 weeks. The sticking points are still the gauranteed contracts, duration of contracts, overall salary allocated for players, hard vs. soft caps, and the length of the upcoming CBA. Good luck to all of us...

While this was the expected outcome from Monday, it still sucks to know there is no progress in the labor talks, and we are just 3 months away from the supposed opening night....
