I just have to respectfully disagree with you on two things:
A) The triangle offense (aka the triple posts offense) is designed in such a way, you really don't have to be great scorer individually to make it effective. It involves a ton of passing and movements. As long as players are in consistant motion, are aware of where their defense are positioning; anyone could easily get open look for shots. So there is really no such thing as a team constructed FOR this type of offense. I would say, so long you have above average passers and shooters on a team, that team is capable of running that offense. Whether you can make it effective is quite another story, and we will need to consult Tex Winter (the creator of this offense) for that.
B) The Lakers as it, sure, our bench is pretty sorry and inconsistant, yet we have 2 arguably all-star level 7-footers in Bynum and Gasol, along with the brand new 6th Man of the Year in Odom, a former Defensive Player of the Year in Artest along with an aging KB24 (ha!). I don't think the Lakers are quite done yet. Fatigue played a huge role in this year's early exit. We obviously need to give more minutes to Steve Blake AND somehow help him improve his ballhandling around the triangle. Brown is another story, he needs to improve his outside shootings, especially off dribble penetration. How often have we seen him playing "hero ball" and cannot finish at the end? |
