Personally i would stick with mazda RX-7s for racing purpose, but since i'm in oz, i did try the V8s out a fair bit.
i had been racing these V8 machine [both falcon and commodore] on touring races couple times at warwick, eastern creek, and bathurst. they are quit fast on straights, and does ok on high speed corners. however, you have to do a lot of work on the suspension to improve their handling; but not too much though, that would move the car into higher group.
Anyway, the suspension system you see on those V8 supercars are completely different from the street cars, even different from the ones that race at touring events. Acutally you can buy a retired V8 supercar from the race teams at the end of the season, sometimes they do sell their old cars before they move on to a newer platform. The cheaper on would cost you 80,000 AUD to 100,000 AUD, but these cars are faster than supercars on track hey. the ones i got is saloon touring race cars, only cose me around 20,000 AUD with trailer. of course i get rid of them pretty quick too since i already got a RX-7 race car, can't afford too much for having 3 race car at home, and the landlord doesn't like it too LOL. but i'm trying to move on to the rally scene, i might try to convert the 7 into a rally car.
I'm not looking down at the koreans, but they always say something bigger then they are, i woud have a look on that so called "supercar killer" genesis, but won't think about it too much though
