Some are model sharing with GM brand cars.

Holden Commodore has some DNA of Opel 30 years ago. Now it has developed into its own line. A cheap, big, RWD car. Quite honest and well made. The engines are powerful but drink petrol. Unfortunately, due to its development you cannot compare it with an European sedan. e.g. Mercedes E or S class is miles ahead of it. I have owned a top of line Holden Commodore V8 5.7 litres for a few years, and E320 of the same era and Mercedes is a lot better in refinement.

This is an Aussie icon. they are trying hard to biuld this images.  however. their big boss os GM. i guess ching is an Aussie so that why u know this brand very much. recently their car sales not as good as before. because high fuel consumption.  petol pump price is not cheap anymore.  about $12. hk/Lt.

Sale of big, thirst cars in Australia has come down a lot. Most Commodore sales are to Government and companies (fleet sale). It used to be number 1 selling model but Mazda3 has overtaken it for a while. Also the most popular car brand in Australia is Toyota (some models are made in Australia, some imported). About 1 in 5 cars on the road are Toyota.

Holden VF Commodore SS is a very honest, quick and good value middle class transport.
You've got all full options and a powerful engine but unfortunately drinks like fish.
As compared to the Mercedes E class and BMW 5 series, of course it is not as refined.
But for the same options and engine, Holden will cost about A$ 65K max but the E350 (not AMG) will cost at least A$140k  or 535i for A$130k as well.
You see it is half the price but you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

Agree with the above, its a powerful car and cheap for the size, but the interior does feel like u are sitting in a cheap car unfortunately.  The 5.7L is very powerful and loves to rev, I think its the same one that goes in the Camero in the US which I've driven, its got weak low down torque but loves to rev.

this is a fun car to drive especially on highway. but use lot of patrols. used to drive it ages ago. that time the workmanship of this car is poor. not sure about this now.
i think every brother who had ever lived in australia should drive this before. its very common down there.

Yes, brother.
This is the very car that will appear in probably next year's V8 supercar series.
Luckily, this year we will also have Falcon, AMG E55 and Nissan as well.

Just heard from the news that this car was launched for this year's Daytona in US.
The road car car will soon be available for sale in the US for USD10k cheaper than you pay Downunder despite the car is designed and made in Australia.

I missed my chance to get the Pontiac version of the Holden (well, actually I couldn't stand the interior of that car).  I was hoping the interior of this new version would be more pleasant.  For me, it's going to be this Chevy SS vs. Chrysler 300 V8 vs. Hyundai Genesis V8.
