A few weeks back I saw the revolutionary one-piece carbon fiber wheels developed by Australia’s Carbon Revolution. Built first for the Porsche 911, the 19x8.5 (front) and 19x12 (rear) wheels save some ten pounds of unsprung weight per corner, delivering noticeable gains in acceleration, cornering and fuel economy.

Carbon Revolution claims the wheels reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), too, since the carbon fiber material has natural damping properties. If there’s a downside, it’s the cost of a set of four, estimated to be US$15,000. Like the saying goes, “speed costs money, so how fast do you want to spend?”

If shaving tenths of a second off your lap time is how you prefer to spend weekends, the wheels may see like a reasonable performance upgrade. As for strength, the manufacturer claims its carbon fiber wheels are durable, impact resistant and have a life expectancy comparable to aluminum wheels. They’re SAE and TUV approved, too.

Carbon Revolution’s CR-9 wheels are now available from three U.S. distributors, including BBI Autosport in Huntington Beach, California; RSTRADA Limited, in Los Angeles, California, and Wheel Warehouse, located in Anaheim California.

The CR-9 wheels are currently manufactured for the Porsche 911, the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Audi R8, but Carbon Revolution promises more fitments (starting with the BMW M3) in the near future.

Nearly a decade in the making, Australian-based Carbon Revolution, an independent wheel manufacturer with origins in advanced materials R&D and vehicle engineering, has created the first available one-piece carbon fiber composite wheel.
At just 15.7lbs, the CR9 weighs 40 to 50% less than conventional alloy wheels while exceeding all OEM standards and strength requirements. In addition to performance gains attributed to a significant reduction in unsprung weight, the CR9 offers an efficiency benefit of up to 6% resulting in reduced vehicle emissions.
Sizes include 19x8.5 and 19x12 with initial fitment for Porsche 911, and integration for Audi R8, Lamborghini Gallardo, and McLaren C12.

Carbon fiber wheels is perfect made for fast cars. It has pretty nice advantages like added speed and better fuel economy. But, spending unrealistic US$15,000 for a set of four realistic wheels. I won't burn that kind of money for it. It's not like I need to race in my car everyday.

It would be lighter in total body weight, can accelerate faster, but in terms of car stability during speeding, would it be ok? Wheel weight and width would give stability of vehicle during speeding up...

Stability has nothing to do with wheel weight, acceleration will be quicker.

For real car lovers or fanatics.  What is US15,000.  It is not surprising to see them spending HKD 30,000 to buy an old Evo and then spend another $30,000 on upgrading the car.  For them,money is no probem as long as they look cool or shed 1/10 of a second on trackday.  The sky is the limit.
