Electric car is slow is a myth, in reality it is very quick because it has a very high and flat torque curve all the way and not like a gasoline engine.  if you don't believe, take a look at the Tesla electric car which goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4 second and it has a range of 250 miles using the 80 KW battery pack.
Most hybrid electric cars we buy today is a compromise of fuel economy and price point, they carry two engines that is why they are not fast.  in today's market I believe a turbo diesel is the best compromise until better battery technology is available.

Global daily oil consumption has been steady at around 86 million barrels and didn't grow much in the last 10 years and there is little sign the world is running out of oil any time soon.  The fear mongers that has been promoting the "peak oil theory" have also been keeping their month shut because they knew that is just not the case.

Even with an abundant supply of oil, gasoline prices will continue to go up is because oil companies are not building new refineries to meet the demand.  Therefore your suggestion of gasoline prices will continue to go up is correct but the idea of the world is running out of oil may be premature.

60km per litre is a bit exaggerated, the true mileage is dependant on the type of driving you do.

Let me give you two examples, a Chevrolet Volt hybrid with its 16 Kilowatt battery pack can travel over 60 miles before its gas engine needs to kick in, if your daily range is less than 60 miles you will never have to gas it up except charging the battery at night.
A Toyota Prius has a much smaller battery pack and it only has a range of 16 miles on battery alone, that means the gas engine will be used more often than the Chevrolet Volt.
Does it means the Volt is more economical than the Prius?  It depends.
If your range is less than 16 miles, Prius is the winner;
if your range is 16 to 60 miles, the Volt will be the better vehicle;
if your range is over 60 miles, the Prius will win again because it has a much more fuel economical gas engine.
Now I hope you can understand why it is not as easy to pick the final winner.
For myself, I would choose the Volt is because I would not buy an electric car for long trip.
