60km per litre is a bit exaggerated, the true mileage is dependant on the type of driving you do.
Let me give you two examples, a Chevrolet Volt hybrid with its 16 Kilowatt battery pack can travel over 60 miles before its gas engine needs to kick in, if your daily range is less than 60 miles you will never have to gas it up except charging the battery at night.
A Toyota Prius has a much smaller battery pack and it only has a range of 16 miles on battery alone, that means the gas engine will be used more often than the Chevrolet Volt.
Does it means the Volt is more economical than the Prius? It depends.
If your range is less than 16 miles, Prius is the winner;
if your range is 16 to 60 miles, the Volt will be the better vehicle;
if your range is over 60 miles, the Prius will win again because it has a much more fuel economical gas engine.
Now I hope you can understand why it is not as easy to pick the final winner.
For myself, I would choose the Volt is because I would not buy an electric car for long trip. |
