Hong Kong to play pressing game against Singapore
Reporting from Hong Kong China- The Singapore National Team will take on Hong Kong tomorrow in their first ‘A’ international match since a devastating 7-1 loss at the hands of Iraq in the 2014 World Cup Asia Zone Qualifiers.
The match against Hong Kong will be the first of three international friendlies Singapore will play in June giving long serving head coach Raddy Avramovic a chance to fine tune his tactics ahead of December’s AFF Suzuki Cup Championship.
With the formation of the LionsXII at the start of the year, the players have been able to play and train with each other on a regular basis. With eighteen players called up, the backbone of the squad will undoubtedly be familiar with each other.
Speaking at the pre-game press conference, coach Raddy has signaled his intentions to test out a couple of new players on an international level. However, he will not be throwing them into the deep end right away and will pick a good mix of senior players to guide the newer players out.
“We will be putting a mixed team in as the young boys will need more guidance from the senior players. Putting them in will not be very beneficial for them and they will need some help from the senior players”
He also added that the result tomorrow will not be too important to him but he hopes that the players will put on a good show for the fans and prove that they can play football.
His counterpart Ernie Merrick also looks to do the same tomorrow giving some newer players a chance on the international stage. He also brought with him some good news stating that Ghanaian born danger man Godfrey Kari-Kari will be playing in tomorrow’s game giving the team a much needed boost in attack.
When asked about his expectations for tomorrow’s game, Merrick stated the following:
“We need to play well, we need to play attacking football and what we’ve been talking about between the team is the commitment to winning.”
“We will not be playing a counter-attacking game; we will be playing a pressing game. Singapore has come here to Hong Kong so they must know they are up for a battle so they will not sit back.”
Match will kick off tomorrow 1/6/2012 at 20:00HRS at the Hong Kong Stadium.
