The better question is do you need PCIe 3.0
They did a speed compare using the GTX 680 NVidia cards (which support PCIe 3.0)...
Under 1 card, PCIe 2.0 x16 and PCIe 3.0 x16... There is no different in performance
Under 2 cards (SLi), if you use the PCIe 2.0 x8 slots (older motherboard), vs PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, you get 4%
Under 3 cards (tri-SLi), you get 4 to 8% increase under PCIe 3.0 (the speed increase is depended on motherboard types, slot speed, etc, too many to list)
Under 4 cards (Quad-SLi), you get about 20% increase under PCIe 3.0 (again, same with 3 cards)
GTX 680 currently sells for $499 US each. That's about $4000 HK. How many normal computer users will actually have 4 cards? It is true PCIe 3.0 increases the available bandwidth to bus, but currently to take advantage of it, you need to really be pushing the hardware limit and your bank account limit. |
