為什麼一個人要講大話？

在現實世界中。what appears to be 100% 真實的往往就是100%大話。而一些看上去是無可相信的反而是事實的真相。

in my personal opinion, I will more care about the purpose behind a truth or a lie. if the reason is positive, i think it is fine to me. that's what we call white lie. for example: something bad happened, but you don't want your parents worry about it. So you will say " everything is fine." when they ask you "is everything fine?" That's why I will concern about the purpose behind a truth or a lie, not concern about it is a truth or a lie.
