Computer Security is like  condoms. Cumbersome and often spoil the fun but totally necessary.


People often change their locks after their flat have been burgled.

And I bet Edision  now encrypt  all his harddisks and password lock his computers. (But I doubt he will stop taking photos of his conquests!)

It is popular to hate to MS$ products but what is the alternative ?  

Google supposed to have a company policy "DO NO EVIL"  do you believe them ?  此地無銀三百両

Apple specialise in producing closed  systems.  Anyone know how to change the battery on a iphone, ipod, i-apple ?
Hear about the iphone3 security being all but made useless within a year of its release. (If you are use online banking on the iphone3 ..stop it now!)

And Linux and the open source ... take a look at Mozilla ; is it not the same as IE... forever  patching security holes.

The point  quite simply  is that Error Free software does not exist.  You can no more change this fact then you can change the direction of the wind.
But you can adjust your sail to compensate the wind.  In the computer security world adjusting your sail means you do things like using AV software, firewall,  least privillege user account etc.

There are two type of "successful'  IT people.

1)  Those that are trained  in the IT field and then later gained the knowledge of another industry domain.
2)  Those that are trained in a particular industry domain and later gained knowledge of IT.

There are of course the third type  for people like  Bill Gate, Steve jobs  etc... but there are not many of these.

trained up in uni as it,
switched field since 2nd job
back to it for some quick money
now out again.

It depends on how risky is the environment, how careful is the user, what is the cost if being hacked...
I won't wear a helmet when walking in the street for the precaution of falling object from high-rise. However, in 西洋菜街, I try to avoid walking at the middle of the street, but on the pavement with shelter, if possible... but still no helmet.

That why somebody prefer not to use condoms, if they think the risk is justify the fun.

btw, are you working in the field of computer security? I feel that you have the mind of an security advisor. :)

haha, I am not 1), 2) nor Bill Gate...

I'm an IT guy since my first job till now.... that's why I'm not successful

almost everyone i know is interested in security.....but...its not exactly easy to succeed...

even when you are in the security field...its hard to rise...

Mr Jobs work himself into the grave, whereas Bill Gate know when to quit and do things he want/like.
