I suggest you all READ and try to understand what the batch file does before you execute it.

DEL /F /S /Q
   /F            Force deleting of read-only files.
   /S            Delete specified files from all subdirectories.
   /Q            Quiet mode, do not ask if ok to delete on global wildcard

%windir% is your windows directory
%systemdrive% means the drive where you install your windows usually C:


So the batch file deletes ALL files with those extensions.  

A very very risky operation in my book.  especially if you mistype and put in *.* !!!


I personally have *.old *.log; *.chk   files I WANT TO KEEP.

This is a batch script which delete files without confirmation.  It is not a cure all and  NOT A silver bullet.
It deletes files and free up disk space which may or may not make your pc faster.

Useful IF and ONLY IF you understand what it is doing and you accept it.

If you want your IE to run faster just use the IE options to remove the temporary files/old history.

Notepad existed from Windows 3.1; Win 95; Win98, WinMe, W2K.....

Open a command window and type

notepad




WARNING:  understand the script before you blindly run it.  
it is written for Windows XP!!


You can also use MS Word ... just need to save the file as plain TEXT

There's a problem with this script.  It delete \prefetch files which are used by Windows to speed up boot process -- so if you use this batch script, you'll notice the increase time in booting process due to Windows will have to reconstruct and index the files.
