英國皇家方舟號航空母艦可能改建為直升機場

根據英國British Force News 報導，皇家方舟號航空母艦有可能改造成直升機場，停泊于泰晤士河，作為警方及醫療直升機基地，為2012倫敦奧運會提供保安及救援服務。但國防部透露該安排并未作最後決定

Defence chiefs reportedly want the retired Royal Navy aircraft carrier Ark Royal to become a floating heliport on the Thames.

According to The Sunday Times, the ship would be staffed by around 150 veterans, providing a base for police and air ambulance helicopters. It would be set up by May 2012, just in time for the London Olympics.

The iconic warship was axed in last October's defence cuts.

If the bid is accepted the base would be three times the size of London’s only other heliport at Battersea.

The Ministry of Defence said a decision has not yet been made.
