Howard is expensive, but he is a legit star who fans would pay to go see, vs. either Al Jefferson or Millsap. Howard NEEDS shooters around him to be effective, and he knows it. That is why I think he might fit in very well with the Rockets, given the Rockets are willing to go all out and sign him. Think about it, everyone knows he is not a good FT shooter, and every team will try heck-a-Dwight in a close game like they all did this year. Plus, he knows there will be constant double teams coming his way, and he NEEDS shooters to help him out!
As for signing Jefferson, he is not a superstar, but he will ask for close to that kind of salary. And Millsap is more or less like Scola with a better jumper, but also slightly under sized. So while I like them both as players, they can only be pieces for a team with an established star(s). Yet, they will ask for pretty high salary... so you might as well try going for Howard as your first option anyway.
Or, keep an eye on the Spurs' DeJuan Blair. He is not very happy with his role in SA, and he is an unrestricted FA this summer. I don't expect him returning to the Spurs, yet he shouldn't be too expensive either. |
