Let me try to put forward some thoughts:-
1) Mendoza primarily wants his clean name back, thus his dismissal from the police force will be void, and naturally he will be eligible for his retirement gratuity ( 1 million peso). Maybe this is misintepreted as wanting his reinstatment as a police officer. Perhaps Mrs.Leung heard something like "I want my money(retirement fund) .." Since she had little knowledge of the background story so she thought he want money. You can tell from the house he had lived (on the News showing his relatives mourning over his coffin) is really not what a greedy corrupted police will live. Even if he takes bribe, probably its more like the situation in HK in the 60s when the WHOLE police forcetakes bribe, and he had to take his small cut, one way or another.
2) He may also be set-up by higher ranks, expressing sympathy Supposedly there is a script to follow for the whole ordeal, (what makes this thought came to my mind? Well,
a) I don't know why the 2 photographers can be so brave as to be exchanged hostage unless according to the script, the will not be harmed and surely they were duly released. mendoza played along the script
b) The realease of Mrs. Fu and the kids came so abrupt as if its according to a script.
c) why the driver is so relaxed?? Even though th gunman mentioned he will not kill but I don't think any coach driver can be so relaxed when facing an M16 unless again, there is a script.)
Then by evening time, maybe the brother overheard something and knew things will not be what the script they had on hand but the Director want to change the ending instead. That is why he shouted to his brother "don't give in". I think all the provocation is also not in the script and the contents of the phone conversations are also crucial evidence but I am quite sure it will be a mystery forever.
3) The commander held a press conference saying why he order the assault. He specifically mentioned they only heard 6-8 shots so they were quite sure some hostages were still alive. But everyone can see the action took 100 mins and the whole process seems more like a wipe out action (witnesses and evidences alike) rather than a ressue action.(not my personal opinion but analysis of SWAT members from different countries., many posts had links already)!!!
All in all, I don't believe the filipino police can be so stupid but a conspiracy behind scene instead. |
