On 22 Feb 1977, Eagles released 'Hotel California' the title track from the Eagles' album of the same name. Written by Don Felder, Don Henley, and Glenn Frey its long guitar coda was voted the best guitar solo of all time by readers of Guitarist in 1998. The guitar battle between Joe Walsh with a Fender Telecaster and Felder with a Gibson Les Paul took the two of them sitting together working for around three days to achieve the necessary precision. The song is one of the best-known recordings by the band, and in 1998 its long guitar coda was voted the best guitar solo of all time by readers of Guitarist. Since its release, "Hotel California" has been widely regarded as one of the greatest rock songs of all time. It was awarded the Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1978.
