1988年夏天，Jon Anderson 在履行完 'Big Generator' 的巡迴義務後，離開了因為流行化令他一直感覺難以施展拳腳的 YES (official)。Anderson 隨即找來幾位同團前成員：吉他手 Steve Howe、鍵盤手 Rick Wakeman Music 和鼓手 Bill Bruford 一起，只差 Chris Squire 就是當年的黃金五人陣容。然而礙於版權他們無法正大光明地使用 Yes 名號，只得改以 Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe 稱之，貝斯手則依 Bruford 建議聘請他在 King Crimson 的隊友魔人 Tony Levin Official Page 擔任。

1989年6月20日，ABWH 發行唯一一張同名專輯，美術設計一樣請 Roger Dean 負責，Dean 以「假如歐洲殖民者沒有進入美洲，印地安文化可能會發展成什麼樣子」做為發想，封面描繪的多半是美國真實地景，正反面分別為藍色和紅色沙漠。

'Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe' 於英、美兩地排行榜獲得第14名和第30名，多國進入 Top 30，總計銷量約75萬張，剪輯版的單曲 "Brother Of Mine" 則拿下 Billboard 主流搖滾歌曲榜亞軍 (音樂錄影帶導演為 Storm Thorgerson)。雖說樂評對他們不甚友善，但無損緬懷 Yes 早期風格的樂迷們支持，後續的世界巡迴不僅票房反應良好，日後還有兩張相關現場專輯問世。



1990年，原本已有幾首為 ABWH 第二張專輯做準備的曲目錄好，然而隨著 Yes 上演大團圓戲碼並於隔年推出 'Union'，ABWH 也就自然而然地畫下句點。做為 Yes 正史的 "番外篇"，'Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe' 現在罕見被提及，但它的可聽性其實並不遜於 Yes 其他傑作，值得樂迷重新品味珍藏。
