Mick Karn released his first solo album ‘Titles’ on November 2, 1982. After the split of Japan he ventured away from the Asian influence predominantly used by Japan to that of Africa and the Middle East, a perfect example being the exotic “Saviour, Are You With Me”. Always innovative and individualistic as a bass player he took to various woodwind and brass instruments like clarinet and bassoon to augment a truly expressive album. But it’s with the bass that Mick Karn excels like not other, the track “Tribal Dawn” is a true exhibition of his prowess. ‘Titles’ was well received publicly and peaked at #74 on the UK Album Chart. There’s a wide variation of textures on ‘Titles’, each tune exhibits his virtuosity at playing bass, giving each song an iconic, almost trademark, sound.
