In memory of Betty Davis (July 26, 1944 – February 9, 2022) R.I.P.

發跡於紐約市的女性funk-soul先鋒唱作人Betty Davis在昨日逝世，享年77歲。我對這位Miles Davis前妻的音樂發生興趣，是看Miles Davis的紀錄片《Miles Electric: A Different Kind of Blue》，當中有介紹Betty Davis的chapter，我被她酷極了的聲音以及作為fashion icon的形象(簡直是那時的hipster)所深深吸引，還有Santana在片中稱她為”She was the first Madonna, but Madonna is more like Marie Osmond when compared to Betty Davis."，以及她猶如「繆斯」般介紹Miles Davis聽Jimi Hendrix、Sly and the Family Stone，從而影響到Miles的《Filles de Kilimanjaro》以至《Bitches Brew》等神級electric jazz專輯誕生之典故。

Betty Davis被視為cult figure，因為她在70年代的多張標誌性個人專輯主要在歐洲方面受到注目，但在美國本土卻因為她的歌曲以「性」為題而遭主流媒體禁播，從而只算是小眾的選擇。多得西雅圖獨立廠牌Light In The Attic自2007年開始將Betty Davis的專輯再版，當年可以購來《Betty Davis》(1973年) 和《They Say I'm Different》(1974年)的CD，已有如獲至寶之感，那些年我的eclectic DJ set，也會放Betty Davis的歌曲。幾年後也給我買到其首張同名專輯《Betty Davis》的黑膠，雖然也是再版吧。
