“Wouldn’t It Be Good” – 你睇我好，我睇你好



年前遊北海道，其中一站是在富良野乘坐熱氣球。那個熱氣球操作員是一位年輕的日本人，當他知道我們是從香港來的時候，他便對我們說他從未到過香港，他在鄉村地方生活，很羨慕我們有那麽多的高樓大廈。但我們卻反過來對他說很羡慕他可以住在這樣寧靜遠離煩囂的鄉村地方。

人們總是覺得別人的東西比自己的好，覺得「外國的月亮特別圓」、「老婆是別人的好」丶「隔離飯香」，英文也有這樣的一句慣用語：”the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”。總括而言，就是「你睇我好，我睇你好」。

有一天我又聽到以下的一段對話 :

甲: 「我很努力，竭盡所能，受了很多苦，結果都是得不到想要的。我身心疲累，很想放棄。你的路比我的易走得多，你永遠不會明白我的苦況。如果我是你的話有多好，即使只得一天我也心滿意足。」

乙: 「你在開玩笑嗎? 我今天所得到的並非你想像的容易，你跟本不明白我所經歷過的。我在背後所付出的、所受的苦並不比你少。如果我是你就不會去羨慕別人。做好你自已，做好你的本份吧！」

其實以上的一段對話是取自Nik Kershaw的”Wouldn’t It Be Good”裏其中一段歌詞，想表達的正是「你睇我好，我睇你好」。



1984年的”Wouldn’t It Be Good”是Nik Kershaw的成名作，收錄在他的首張專輯”Human Racing”中，是此專輯中推出的第二張single。第一張推出的single是”I Won’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”，當時的成績並不理想。但它因其後”Wouldn’t It Be Good”的成功而再度推出，令它的命運得到180度逆轉，在英國細碟榜成功登上亞軍位置，在歐洲其他國家如荷蘭、瑞士、瑞典、愛爾蘭等等的流行榜都能打進十大。

當年的我很喜歡看”Wouldn’t It Be Good”的MV，覺得是一個很特別的MV，但其實不甚明白它在說甚麽，為甚麼Nik Kershaw會化身透明人？不過人大了理解多了，知道Nik Kershaw所飾演的”失意者”身上所反映的其實是其他人的日常生活與所見所聞。代表了他很羨慕這些人，希望自已像他們一樣。他這樣的想法被其他人視為異類，所以在他所到之處都被人報以奇異目光。最後他決定做回自已，身上的映像消失了，他也回到屬於自已的地方。

Howard Jones與Nik Kershaw差不多是同期出道，都是80年代的紅人，都是來自英國，但甚少同台演出。2008年Howard Jones舉行的紀念入行25週年演唱會中請來Nik Kershaw作特別嘉賓，一同表演”Wouldn’t It Be Good”這首歌，是一次很難得和有意義的演出。

"Wouldn’t It Be Good”有多過翻唱版，但發覺很多個的編曲處理都是和原曲差不多，並不突出，亦不能超越原版。以下兩個是比較不同的，也是我比較喜歡的。

新西蘭歌手Nadine Loren在2011年推出翻唱80年代歌曲的專輯”Naked 80’s”，裡面的所有歌曲都是她小時候喜歡聽的，”Wouldn’t It Be Good”是其中一首。這個版本的特色是在背境加進女高音，對流行曲來說是較少見的 :

原名Jason Arnold的美國音樂唱作人兼監制ShyBoy在2013年推出的首張個人專輯”Water on Mars”翻唱了”Wouldn’t It Be Good”。這是一個較慢，較灰調的版本，和Nik Kershaw的原版很不一樣 :
