Beijing not answering on Lee Bo, says Michael Tien
A local delegate to the National People's Congress, Michael Tien, says he has written three letters to the central government asking whether Causeway Bay bookseller Lee Bo was abducted by mainland officials, but has not received any reply.
The New People's Party lawmaker said he asked the national legislature if cross-border law enforcement was involved, but heard no responses since January.
Following his return to Hong Kong, Lee Bo said he chose to go to the mainland to assist with an investigation. However there is no record of him having been through immigration.
Lee was one of five men linked to the Causeway Bay bookshop who were detained on the mainland. The store sold titles critical of central government leaders.
Tien said the saga was the biggest issue affecting Hong Kong today. He said Beijing needs to explain Lee’s case and improve the notification mechanism for cross-border arrests.
