全國政協前副主席、前中央統戰部部長令計劃涉嫌受賄、非法獲取國家秘密以及濫用職權，被天津檢察機關起訴。

《新華社》報道，起訴書指控令計劃利用擔任中共中央辦公廳副主任、主任、中央書記處書記、中央統戰部部長、全國政協副主席等職務上便利，為他人謀取利益，索取、非法收受他人巨額財物；非法獲取國家秘密，情節嚴重；濫用職權，致使公共財產、國家和人民利益遭受重大損失，情節特別嚴重。對令計劃，依法應當以受賄罪、非法獲取國家秘密罪、濫用職權罪追究刑事責任。

The right hand man of former president Hu Jintao has become the latest senior mainland official charged with corruption.

According to Xinhua news agency, Ling Jihua has been prosecuted for taking bribes, obtaining state secrets illegally, and abuse of power – more than a year after an official investigation was launched.

The report said that Ling had asked for and accepted an enormous amount of benefits from others illegally during his various offices, and had sought advantages for others as well.

The report cited the indictment by the Tianjin Municipal People's Procuratorate as saying that the case is very serious in nature, but details were not elaborated.

A current affair commentator Johnny Lau told RTHK that since state secrets are involved in the case, Ling will very likely be tried behind closed doors.

Authorities announced he was under investigation at the end of 2014. At that time, he was a vice chairman of Beijing’s advisory body – the CPPCC, and the head of the Communist Party’s United Front Work Department.

Ling had been a political high flyer. Having served as the personal secretary to former president Hu Jintao for years, he was touted as a candidate for the Party’s Poliburo. But his expected rise was thwarted four years ago after his son died in a scandalous car crash in Beijing.

Friday's reports made no mention of Ling's brother, Ling Wancheng, who is believed to live in the United States and is being sought by the mainland’s top anti-corruption agency. A number of other Ling relatives and associates have also been detained over various accusations.

It comes as part of a high-profile crackdown on graft by current President Xi Jinping that has deposed several senior officials, notably former security chief Zhou Yongkang. Critics say that a lack of transparency around the crackdown means it has been an opportunity for Xi to eliminate political enemies.
