A Chinese University study has found that one in five throat cancer cases in Hong Kong were caused by a virus that is well-known for causing cervical cancer.

Dr Eddy Lam said oral sex could spread HPV virus to people's throats. But researchers said tumours can also develop at people's throats that are infected with the virus.

In 2013, Hollywood actor Michael Douglas said his throat cancer was apparently caused by performing oral sex.

But Lam told RTHK’s Wendy Wong they would carry out further studies to find out their correlation.
