鐵證黎勾結美亂港
「黑金操盤手」西蒙信件暴露真相
「禍港四人幫」之一的壹傳媒集團主席黎智英（肥佬黎）與美國關係密切，他所控制的壹傳媒集團，有如美國代言人，更成為「反中亂港」的輿論機器。「壹傳媒股民」早前在網上公開有關黎智英的900多個私密文件，就包括一封由其得力美國「操盤手」Mark Simon （西蒙）發予白宮的信件，信中提到他去信當時的副總統切尼，稱他們獲得多次干預香港事務的「新美國世紀計劃（PNAC）」等與中國「對著幹」的個人以至組織引薦，又強調《蘋果》親美。黎智英主動勾結美國「反中亂港」，可謂證據確鑿。
早前「壹傳媒股民」大爆黎智英強力「泵水」予天主教香港教區榮休主教陳日君、民主黨創黨主席李柱銘、前政務司司長陳方安生及其他反對派，向傳媒公開的近千個檔案中，亦包括一個名為「VP I.doc」的文書檔，該文件正是由當時《蘋果日報》總經理Mark Simon寫給美國副總統辦公室的一封信。
信中抬頭人為當時美國副總統公共事務辦公室的Kevin Kellems，發信目的是希望爭取當時美副總統切尼訪華時，能夠接受《蘋果日報》一次專訪（見圖）。
Mark Simon致函
Mark Simon在信中「力證」《蘋果日報》如何親美，明言《蘋果》是香港唯一有親美的評論版的報章，且獲得多個美國政壇頂尖智庫支持。Mark Simon又向白宮「報告」：「在最近的台灣選舉，我們是當地政黨投放廣告金額最高的報章。」
信件的內容，彷彿意味這次專訪是為了對美國有利而進行，且信中多處都顯示「以美國為本」的意味。Mark Simon更在信中提醒，美國駐港總事館對《蘋果》並不太滿意，覺得這份誨淫誨盜的報章太過「大眾化」，而他們也同樣不滿領事館的立場。這段文字有如向「上級」打「中層」的小報告，反映了《蘋果日報》與美國駐港總領事館似乎有「非一般」的合作關係。
PNAC「引薦」 證鐵桿關係
另外，Mark Simon 在信中一開始便嘗試與白宮「展示關係」，提及到能得到副總統的聯絡資料，全因由PNAC（新美國世紀計劃）的主席Gary Schmitt「引薦」。Mark Simon更在信中聲稱「壹傳媒還有一個優點，我相信很多在華盛頓的人，由『卡托研究所』以至『PNAC（新美國世紀計劃）』都可證明，我們是自由市場和自由人民的鬥士」，足證PNAC與壹傳媒的鐵桿關係。
這個PNAC，其實是一個美國的智庫組織，全名為「Project for the New American Century」。當年的PNAC的主要成員，都是白宮的骨幹，包括正正是《蘋果》希望專訪的副總統切尼、當年的國防部長拉姆斯菲爾德等人。PNAC這個新保守主義組織亦多次干預香港事務（另見文）。
李柱銘與PNAC關係密切
事實上，「禍港四人幫」之一，常被市民批評「出賣香港」甚至是「漢奸」的李柱銘，其實亦與PNAC關係密切。這名經常要求英、美干預香港事務的大狀，曾找來一名叫Ellen Brok擔任助手，而Ellen Brok於2004年辭任李柱銘助手後，已馬上轉到PNAC擔任要職。
至於《蘋果日報》方面，能得到PNAC主席Gary Schmitt 的「介紹」聯絡白宮，亦因壹傳媒集團與PNAC「要好」，經常提供平台讓美國的霸權主義在《蘋果》這個親美宣傳機器發聲。在2004年2月，即此書信發出前約1個月，《蘋果日報》的論壇刊登了Gary Schmitt 及李柱銘前助手Ellen Brok的一篇題為《美國要回應北京威嚇》的文章，內容包括將中央就香港事務的回應抹黑成「威嚇」。

Gary Schmitt of the Project for the New American Century passed me your contact details and I think he spoke with you about our desire to get someone to interview the Vice-President while he is on his way to China.
Next Media is the largest non-government publishing company in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Apple Daily, our flagship newspaper, is the largest audited newspaper in Hong Kong and number two in Taiwan. In the recent Taiwan election we were the number one newspaper in terms of advertising spend by the political parties according to AC Nielsen.
Next Media has one more virtue, and I think many in DC from CATO to PNAC will attest too this. We are a champion of free markets and free peoples. And we have the only pro-American editorial page in all our Hong Kong.
I doubt that you’ll get good words from the US Consulate on us, as we are not happy at all with their position on Hong Kong, and they know it. I think they also consider us a bit too mass for their taste.
The market choice I think works for us in terms of reach. As for the moral case, it wouldn’t hurt to have the US Vice-President choose the only non-tycoon controlled newspaper in Hong Kong to give an interview. It would be noted by most, especially international media.
