South China Head Coach and Player Remain Positive Despite Failure to Qualify from AFC Cup Group Stage
South China completed its AFC Cup 2014 Group G fixtures by comfortably dusting off Malaysian side Kelantan on Tuesday evening by a 4:0 margin. The team finished 3rd in Group G and failed to advance to the next round of the competition. However, coaches and players remained positive when looking back at the turbulent group stage.
South China Head Coach Yeung Ching-kwong vowed the team would learn from this experience. “It was a disappointment that we failed to pick up any points after the first three games but we came along afterwards and did quite well,” Yeung said. “We showed our capabilities but we just needed some time to find ourselves. I am very proud of this team and I am satisfied with the team’s performance.”
Youngster Lo Kong-wai netted a goal in the team’s victory against Kelantan. The media-shy forward remained humble after the game. “I am very happy to be able to find the back of the net against Kelantan and this will be a very hard-to-forget experience for me,” Lo commented. “I have learnt a lot during my time with South China from all the experienced coaches and players. I will try to continue to improve and hope for better things in the future.”
