The BMW M3 technology, now in its fourth generation, was adapted from motorsport for use in everyday vehicles. This includes the innovative lightweight construction epitomised in the roof of the BMW M3 Coupé: it’s made of extremely stable carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP or Carbon).
Some characteristics all BMW M3 models have in common: a chassis that proved its worth on the legendary north loop of the Nürburgring, a high-revolutionary concept with up to 8,400 rpm of driving pleasure and the double-clutch transmission M DKG Drivelogic, which transfers power to the M differential lock and the rear wheels without any disruption to tractive force.
The new flagship 3 Series is due in 2014, and will feature a fresh 3.3-litre six-cylinder engine. This is set to get three turbos – one powered by electricity, rather than the exhaust gases – and is rumoured to offer 450bhp. A mix of steel and ultra-light carbon fibre-reinforced plastic in the body will help deliver huge pace.
There’s no word on engines – but it would need a V10 or V12 to compete with rivals from Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Ferrari. If the project gets the green light, it’s unlikely to arrive before 2016.
The whole world is looking forward to the release of comprehensive specifications of the 2015 BMW M3 !
