   HMV 做不下去，要清盤了，文明世界齊呼可惜。
   九十年的名牌，因為那個商標：一隻狗蹲在一副留聲機喇叭前聆聽：「他主人的聲音」。
His Master's Voice ─ 小時候，我在家裏聽唱片，桃麗絲黛的 Que Sera Sera，還有芭蒂貝芝的「櫥窗裏的小狗多少錢」，四十五轉唱片，棗紅色的商標紙，印着這個圖案。
   本來是一張油畫，畫家名叫巴羅德。一八九八年，他在英格蘭西部布里斯托一家劇院當舞台經理，他喜歡繪畫，有時佈景和海報都由他繪製。
   巴羅德收養了一隻流浪狗，帶了回家。小狗有一個怪脾氣，看見人的腳跟就追上去咬。巴羅德給牠取名叫 Nipper──小咬，從此相依為命。他買了一副留聲機回家，用手絞動唱片，小咬聽見了，走過來，坐在留聲機的喇叭前，側頭凝神聆聽。巴羅德據此畫了一幅油畫。兩年之後，一百鎊賣給一個唱片商人。從此，這隻叫 Nipper 的狗就不朽。
   HMV 把油畫的主題製成商標。那時剛打完第一次世界大戰不久，有許多英軍陣亡。HMV 小狗聽喇叭標記：「他主人的聲音」，令許多人看了覺得傷感。主人不在人世了，留下了聲音，他的小狗一面聽，一面懷念着人。HMV 這個名字，有一個人情味的故事，而且商標的畫面，是一個小劇場的一景。
   然後是歐戰，邱吉爾的戰爭廣播，蒼涼的聲音，在收音機裏傳來，小咬象徵的是一份忠貞，地老天荒，為一個意念長廝守、長相憶，HMV 就這樣成為國家的典故。
   三代人的情感，都灌鑄在百年的唱片裏。真正的歲月留聲，因為一幅油畫，一個畫家，和他收養過的一隻流浪狗，為人世留下一個如此美好的名字。這才是真正的品牌（Brand），不但是優良的產品，而且蘊含着善良和美，閃耀着人間大愛。
