It is better to get a 2nd car. Once you get use to it and the road, then considered buying a new car. You make sure to do some research first before getting a used car. Buying a car comes with many responsibilities, it is not like buying candy in store.

My first car is subsidized by parent in Canada back to 2004.
I remember my first car is 94 Honda Accord four doors with 2200cc Vtec - champagne color.
Brand new from dealership. It is one of most common family car for HK immigrant.
Speaking of that, I remember the excitement when I drive it for the first time.
For the first time to buy car, I always suggest to buy a big second hand cheap car. After a while when you get used to drive the big car, will have no problem to drive any car at all. By that time can buy a brand new car.
I did this too when I bought my first car.
