《Scarborough Fair》原是一首古老的英國民歌，其起源可一直追溯到中世紀，保羅·西蒙在英國學習期間從英國民歌歌手Martin Carthy處學會了這首民歌，並對其進行改編，加入了自己創作的一首The Side of A Hill 作為副歌。由（Art Garfunkel）作曲並演唱的副歌做為歌曲的和音在聽覺的感受上不是特別強烈，因此很多人對副歌不太留意，認為副歌只是歌唱的一種處理形式，實際上副歌卻是整個歌曲的靈魂，賦予了歌曲以反戰的主題。該歌曲還被用作電影《畢業生》的插曲，大受20世紀60年代美國大學生歡迎。
