Agreed. I've lived in New York City for almost 50 years, and we Cantonese always referred to Chinatown as 唐人街, not as 中國城 or 華埠. Only the Taiwanese or the recent mainlanders called Chinatown as 華埠 or 中國城. By the way, up until about twenty years ago, most of the oversea Chinese were from the Canton costal area, and we always spoke Cantonese, not mandarin. The older generations of oversea Chinese always called China as as 唐山. |
