I think winning straight is not everything

when in playoff
I think the most important will be the mental stability of the players
because it is a eliminate game no come back

aslo you have to build up in the regular season to get good position

That why those "run & gun" teams, like Mavericks or Nets(previously), always got winning streak!
While they are easily eliminated in playoff - they are playing 5 to 7 games with the same opponents (the more mentally stable that can "tune-up" their playing strategy will win the playoff).
