Released 40 years ago this month in 1985 ... The final album by cult post punk & goth art rock band, Christian Death extended its shadow over the nascent gothic genre with the release of of its' third album 'Ashes'. Continuing where the epic 'Catastrophe Ballet' left off, 'Ashes' furthered the band's burgeoning legacy with its keen sense of romance and dramatic flair. The disturbingly dark and deeply atmospheric songwriting of the two main protagonists, Rozz Williams (vocals) and Valor Kand (guitar/vocals), remains to this day some of the bands most elegant and incisive. Williams' unquestionably delivers some of the finest vocal performances of his all-too-short career.
The album featured original founding member, Rozz Williams (who sadly departed this mortal coil in 1998 aged just 34) - the complex musical masterpiece 'Ashes' originally released as a double vinyl set, virtually being a descriptive soundtrack for the band from beginning to end of chapter one of their career. Best described as a beautifully disturbing must listen!
