分手許多年以後，在一場Joan Baez的演唱會上，唱到第三首歌的時候，Joan Baez用略帶顫抖的聲音説了句：“I'll be damned look what the wind brought in!”（真見鬼，什麼風把你吹來了？） 隨後，Bob Dylan一頭亂頭髮在台上出現，抱着個吉他，坐在Baez身邊。歌迷們沸騰了，高聲歡呼，隨後開始沉醉於兩人合唱的《blowing in the wind》 。
唱完後，Bob Dylan隨即匆匆走掉，Baez眼淚汪汪地接着唱她自己寫的歌《diamonds and rust》，這是把藕斷絲連表達得最直白的歌詞，也只有他們兩人才能懂得全部含義。這首歌也為十年後他們的複合打下了伏筆。
Joan Baez有好幾首這樣的傳世之作，如“Donna , Donna”、“The night they drove old Dixies down”及“Diamonds and rust”等。其中“Diamonds and rust”是一首難度較高的曲子。
Joan Baez嗓音清亮、純淨，技巧成熟，許多知名作曲家都樂意提供作品給她唱，因而她比較知名的曲子大都不是自己所寫，“Diamonds and rust.”是她自己譜寫的歌曲中最為人熟知的一首。
“鑽石”在英文中常常被比喻為“回憶里美好的事物”，有一首歌名叫“Some days are diamonds，some days are stones.”其比喻類似，至於“鐵鏽”、“石頭”則用來比喻“回憶中不美好的事物”。也有人這樣理解：The diamonds are tears and the rust comes when they fall and dry。
