The Golf develops 296bhp and 280lb ft all the way from 1,800 to 5,500rpm; the A45 boasts a thunderous 355bhp and 332lb ft available anywhere between 2,250 and 5,000rpm. The Golf is 60kg lighter.

their verdict:
In the end, although I enjoyed the Mercedes more in extremis, I’m giving the nod to the Golf, not least because it’s nearly £7,000 cheaper and just as fast across country.

if a tuned Golf R is fractionally faster than A45, then the stardard one should be fractionally slower.
But the question here is as Top Gear summaried: Golf R is easier to live with and much chaper...

The A45 is short of supply and the price on 28 Car net is almost 900K in Hong Kong .The Golf R is only 498K for the DSG version and the manual is 30K cheaper.Their performance are nearly the same on the street,but the Golf R is worse on the track as reported by many foreign journalists.
