Barry Manilow，1946年6月17日出生於紐約的布魯克林，Barry在紐約音樂學院和朱利亞音樂學院學習時，就在歌倫比亞錄音公司的制作室裏當臨時工。1972年便開始為一些歌手的專輯配器並參與制作。1974年開始了他的獨唱生涯。1975年，他的單曲（Mandy）登上了排行榜榜首。

‘I Write The Songs’ 是前 Beach Boy Bruce Johnston作. 這歌在1976上了 The Billboard Hot 100 第一位, Barry 初時沒有興趣翻錄這歌，怎料這是他最受歡迎歌。
