1961年5月17日出生愛爾蘭的大家庭中，本名為 - Eithne Ni Bhraonain，父母親在自組樂團中擔任薩克斯風手及鋼琴演奏，巡回愛爾蘭，蘇格蘭，英格蘭等地演出，表演五十，六十年代的歌曲，自小修習古典鋼琴，在充滿音樂氣息的環境中成長。
'80年 Enya 打消進入音樂大學的念頭，而加入由姐姐，兩個哥哥及雙胞胎叔叔所組成的家族樂團 [Clannad] 擔任鍵盤手，歷經2年嚴格緊湊的巡回演唱經驗。將愛爾蘭傳統民謠予以重新編曲蔚為特色的 [Clannad]，由其強烈突出的特色在愛爾蘭，英國及歐洲等地擁有祟高而權威的地位。

在才華洋溢的家族成員壓力下，欲尋求更自由的創作空間，'82年離開 [Clannad] 另覓發展。離開 [Clannad] 後與樂隊經理人Nicky Ryan(制作人)及其妻Roma Ryan(作詞人)組成三人創作群，繼續開創個人事業。
