If battery is so environmentally unfriendly and required proper disposal, why are the enviromentalists are pushing so hard for electric vehicles, so is energy savings is more important than clean environment?

Also most car batteries are the lead acid type (SLA), are nickel-cadmium, lithium Iron phosphate or the more expensive Lithium manganese dioxide batteries any cleaner?  The reason I ask this is because China is one of the world's largest users of these type of batteries for their electric bicycles.

通常換電時, 電池舖都會回收埋舊電池架嘛~
