I really like the etron II concept because it uses 2 electric motors, 1 for slow speed, second one for higher speed before the gasoline motor begins to kick in. For around town driving, you may not need to gas up the car if you can plug it in every night.  Of course, the downside is the production costs would be prohibitively expensive that is why Audi refuses to give any commitment of bringing it to the market.
